FAQ

Pricing questions,
answered straight.

How many words is an hour of dictation?

About 6,000. People speak at around 150 words a minute, but real dictation has pauses between thoughts, and each clip is billed at a 10-second minimum. Across actual Voca usage, a billed hour comes out at a little over 6,000 words. A $2 Starter pack (about 20 hours) covers around 120,000 words.

Is the free plan really 5 hours?

Yes. Every account gets 5 hours of transcription each calendar month, with no card required, and it resets on the 1st. If you go over, one more clip goes through so you aren't cut off mid-sentence. After that you'll need credits or Pro until the next month. On a team, the 5 hours is shared by the members who aren't on Pro.

What happens when credits run out?

Your free 5 hours are always used first each month, then credits. When both are gone, one more clip goes through, and then transcription pauses until you top up or switch to Pro. Nothing is charged automatically: credit packs are one-off purchases, so there are no surprise top-ups.

Do credits expire?

No. Credits never expire, and they work on every device signed into your account.

PAYG or Pro: which is cheaper?

Pro is $6 a month and pay-as-you-go is $0.10 an hour, so they cost the same at 60 paid hours a month. Because the 5 free hours come first, pay-as-you-go stays cheaper until you dictate about 65 hours a month. That's more than two hours every day.

Below that, buy credits. Above it, or if you want the high-quality model and transcript history, go Pro. Each clip is billed at a 10-second minimum, so lots of very short clips use credits a little faster.

Is my audio stored?

No. Audio streams to our transcription provider, the text comes back, and the audio is discarded. It is never written to our servers, our provider runs with zero data retention, and nothing is used to train models. Transcript history is off by default and only kept on Pro if you turn it on.
